Experiment001

Every so often I'm going to put up some paintings where I play around with different styles and techniques that I want to understand better. This is influenced by the work of Andrew Jones. Amazing concept artist.

  1. Never heard of Andrew Jones before. Just looked him up and he has some pretty wicked stuff! He is definitely a lot more graphical than he is conceptual (at least in my opinion =P)

I think the best way to capture his style is to focus on extreme contrasts of light/dark, high/low color saturation, and to create a lot of visual noise.

I like how you're playing with brushes and textures, and how you're starting to expand from pictoral studies into visually conceptual pieces. How long did you work on this one?

  2. Maybe about an hour, hour and half. I'm still working it out the style, but I will do more with the contrasts. This piece was really mid range.
