Battle Royale 1

Here's my 1st BR scene. A little rough, but I'm going to try and do more scenes and get tighter with my renderings.

  1. Smooth moves, Michael, smooooth...

Let me begin by saying I liked something about this the moment I saw it, but I didn't know what at first. I think it's the way the figure's defined. The background is out of focus as it should be (that a jungle there?) and this sharpens the view of the girl in the foreground. I see elements of minimalist (the way the shirt and BG are rendered) and abstract (the face shape is slightly distorted, esp. the left iris of her eye which is almost flat and parallel on that side) in this as well. Finally, while it took me a little while, I concluded that the facial expression was far more expressive than I first perceived. It's Mona Lisa with an S&M streak - subtle but very thought-provoking - "Who cut/scratched her?" "Why?" "What is she thinking/getting ready to do now?" "I bet it's pretty sinister.")

You seem to have this thing for doing hair, so nice on the hair as usual.

One big question though - I meant "battle royal" as an action scene with multiple characters/combatants. I was wondering if this means you misunderstood me (but in an awesome way, lol), or if this piece is just part of a sequence or cut-out?

  2. Nice one to start off with. I like the colors a lot. Very disturbing.

  3. Heh heh, I thought you meant Battle Royale the movie. I was going to do a series of pics from that film.
